Boulder International Film Festival Announces 2023 Program

The 19th annual festival includes award-winning filmmakers, a chef competition, the Adventure Film Pavilion, and more from March 2 to 5

 

BOULDER, CO. — February 10 — The 19th annual Boulder International Film Festival is pleased to announce the full film program and schedule for March 2 to 5 in downtown Boulder, including 66 films from 20 countries, 45 filmmakers and subjects in attendance, and the return of festival favorites such as the Adventure Film Pavilion, the CineCHEF food competition, and a live recording of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast with Scott Feinberg.

 

BIFF’s line-up this year includes four feature films from Sundance and 13 films made by Colorado filmmakers. The full program is here. Select films in the 2023 BIFF program will be available to watch on the “BIFF at Home!” virtual platform from March 6 to 19.

 

This year’s ticketed programs, in chronological order, include:

 

CineCHEF 2023 — CineChef is back on Thursday, March 2, as a friendly competition between seven award-winning Colorado chefs who will each create delectable bites inspired by favorite films. The event includes live music, drinks, and dessert, and attendees vote for their favorite bites. A line-up of participating chefs and additional details are at biff1.com/cinechef.

 

Opening Night Red Carpet Gala and FilmOpening night begins with two parties, one at the Hotel Boulderado and another at BIFF’s private festival party space on the third floor of the Crystal Building at 1401 Pearl. The parties feature live music, food and drinks, and the Guerrilla Fanfare Brass Band, which will lead attendees second-line style from the parties to the Boulder Theater for the screening of Immediate Family, a film about a session band that elevated the music of James Taylor, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Keith Richards, David Crosby, and many others. Director Denny Tedesco, executive producer Dan Braun, and band members Russ Kunkel and Steve Postell will participate in a Q&A with Ron Bostwick of 105.5 The Colorado Sound after the film.

 

Just Announced: Live Podcast with Scott Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter — For the second year, The Hollywood Reporter’s awards columnist Scott Feinberg will record a special live episode of his popular Awards Chatter podcast on Saturday, March 4, at 5:45pm. . The podcast features hour-long career-retrospective interviews with Hollywood A-listers. This year’s celebrity special guest will be announced soon in a separate release and at biff1.com.

 

Just Announced: Closing Night Film and Awards Ceremony — Closing night begins with live music and the annual BIFF awards ceremony followed by a screening of Still Working 9 to 5, a feature documentary about the 1980 film and culture-changing phenomenon 9 to 5, which includes new interviews with stars Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin alongside writers, feminists, and everyday people. Singer Songwriter Showcase — For the eleventh year, the BIFF Singer Songwriter Showcase will feature a roster of eight local musicians performing over two nights—Thursday, March 2, and Saturday, March 4—at the new BIFF venue Velvet Elk Lounge. Details at biff1.com/music.

 

This year’s festival also includes the return of the BIFF Adventure Film Pavilion, from March 3 to 5, which features a collection of the world’s greatest new adventure films, including shorts, features, and discussions with world-class adventurers. The AFP will showcase 17 shorts and 9 feature length films, with many filmmakers and subjects in attendance.
