Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You
A documentary by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady
S.A / Documentary / 2015 / 91 min. / Loki Films
At age 93, Norman Lear is as vital and engaged as ever. This stylish and imaginative film crackles with Lear’s comedy and indelible characters that made him the most influential—and often the most controversial—creator, writer and producer in the history of television. This film’s brightly assembled celebration of the veteran showman holds up a mirror to today’s American television, asking if it’s addressing issues of difference and prejudice as directly (and daringly) as Lear’s shows, such as “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons.” Lear also has some great stories about the second act of his life, his founding of advocacy group People For The American Way.
Inside the Boulder Theater, enjoy a surprisingly original and enticing mix of gypsy jazz, folk pop and swing from Banshee Tree, followed by the BIFF Awards Ceremony where we’ll honor the Best of the Fest with their hand-crafted Bill Vielehr award sculptures.
The ceremony will be followed by a screening of the entertaining new documentary Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You. Coming to BIFF right after opening the Sundance Film Festival, this film is a celebration of one of the funniest and most influential creators, writers and producers in the history of television.
