Originally hailing from The Garden State of New Jersey, Chef Alex De Bernardis began his culinary journey in Canada at the Niagara Culinary Institute before making his way to Colorado in 2014, in search of the next step in his culinary adventure.

Chef De Bernardis’s impressive career spans several highly-regarded restaurants in Boulder, each shaping his expertise and culinary perspective. As Executive Chef at Mateo, he honed his leadership skills, overseeing every aspect of the kitchen, from menu creation to staff management, all while maintaining impeccable food quality and presentation. His passion for culinary excellence also led him to play a pivotal role in opening Rosetta Hall
and Acreage, a farm-to-table restaurant where he worked alongside celebrated chef Daniel Asher.

His collaboration with Asher sparked a deep interest in Middle Eastern flavors, which became the foundation of his role as Chef de Cuisine at Ash’kara. Here, Alex discovered his love for experimenting with new ingredients and pushing culinary boundaries, further shaping his evolving style.

Alex is currently the Sous Chef at Basta, one of Boulder’s most renowned restaurants, where he continues to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation. He is dedicated to crafting dishes that captivate and inspire, offering diners a unique culinary experience with bold flavors and techniques that challenge the status quo.
